Wipro Enterprise Digital Operations solution helps an energy client to improve security and compliance posture by reducing vulnerabilities.
Ambition
The client is a European based energy company with activities in more than 40 countries and one of the cleanest energy producers. The customer’s operations in the Nordics comprise of efficient, CO2-free power generation, as well as reliable supply of electricity and district heat to private and business customers. They engaged Wipro for delivering cloud operation and management services across their IT estate.
At the beginning of the engagement, Wipro noticed several challenges, including:
- Key accounts lacked essential AWS backup protection, and their security hub assessments consistently highlighted significant vulnerabilities with scores below 20%.
- Older versions of software and unpatched vulnerabilities were recognized as severe risks. Additionally, the team experienced difficulties in efficiently provisioning new accounts, leading to inconsistencies and potential security gaps.
- The IT department faced substantial pressure to address these issues, with top priorities including the implementation of robust backup strategies, the remediation of vulnerabilities, the automation of account provisioning processes and improving overall governance.
Action
Wipro deployed team from Enterprise Digital Operation Center (EDOC) to harness the maximum potential of AWS cloud services by managing the hybrid cloud services to deliver efficiency, mitigate risks and ensure maximum availability, in a cost-effective manner.
Post transition, the Wipro team has been actively involved in enhancing the security, management and operations for the customer’s AWS environment. Wipro has enabled AWS Config to track configuration changes and report vulnerabilities, significantly improved security scores, and suggested several infrastructure management improvements.
The team introduced antivirus tools and scan agents to report vulnerabilities, and they strengthened IAM implementation with strict access policies for compute instances. Additionally, they integrated their ITSM tool, ServiceNow, with the customer's ARS tool for better inventory and ticketing management. Monitoring is facilitated through CloudWatch Alarms and OpsRamp. AWS Systems Manager is used to enable patch management.
Wipro EDOC team has streamlined processes by implementing several automations leveraging cloud formation templates and enabled automated backups for improving better Disaster recovery process.
Ambition Realized
By deploying automation, streamlining governance, and by remediating technical debt, Wipro helped the customer achieve cost savings of up to 30%. Additionally, the customer realized enhanced disaster recovery and improved security posture by reducing vulnerabilities by 80%. Efficient account provisioning was attained using CloudFormation templates, leading to proficiency in critical activities automation.
